A look back: Iberostar Hotels & Resorts in Mexico
With more than 60 years of experience and presence of 35 countries, Grupo Iberostar, a family business founded by Miguel Fluxá in Mallorca, Spain, is a leader in international tourism with incredible hotels, whose premise is to provide first class services aimed at guaranteeing complete satisfaction of the guests. In 1997, Iberostar built its first hotel in Playa del Carmen: Iberostar Tucán and Iberostar Quetzal, later the brand acquired and inaugurated Iberostar Cozumel in 1999, offering the best all-inclusive option to vacation in the region.
In 2001, Iberostar began its Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf and Spa Resort project, which for almost a decade would include the construction of a new hotel property that would begin with Iberostar Paraíso Beach and Paraíso del Mar. The brand continued to build additional properties throughout the year. the first half of the decade, including its third hotel in the Paraíso complex, Iberostar Paraíso Lindo (2003), followed by Iberostar Paraíso Maya (2005) and finally Iberostar Grand Paraíso (2007). The complete construction incorporates unlimited amenities, a shopping plaza, a Convention Center, an 18-hole golf course, spa facilities, among others.
As Mexico's appeal grew, so did the presence of the brand in the country. In 2012, Iberostar opened Iberostar Cancún and in 2013, opened its first property on the Pacific coast, Iberostar Playa Mita, on the Riviera Nayarit.
During its 20 years of commitment to Mexico, the brand has contributed to the development of the tourism industry through investments that exceed $ 775 million dollars and the creation of more than 4,500 direct jobs in the country.
At the beginning of 2018, Iberostar regrouped its hotels into three segments: city hotels, beach resorts and Iberostar Heritage, a new category that includes hotels with history and tradition. New investments in Mexico
Iberostar continues to focus on its growth and expansion in its hotel portfolio in Mexico. In the short term, the brand will open a new 13-story tower at its Golf and Spa complex in Cancun at the end of 2018.
The new tower will be located steps from the sea and will have 154 luxury suites overlooking the turquoise waters of the most spectacular coast of Mexico, a new bar, restaurant and pool. The new restaurant will have capacity for 232 people and will serve buffet breakfast and lunch, as well as a la carte dinners.
Iberostar has also announced a new hotel in Los Cabos and a second hotel in Litibú, owned by Iberostar in Los Cabos, with nearly 4 million square meters and almost two kilometers in front of Zacatón beach, was acquired in November 2017
