Tue November 06, 2018

The World Tourism Organization will continue to promote investment in innovation and digital advances for a tourism sector that can provide opportunities for all

On the occasion of the 2018 edition of the World Travel Market (WTM), the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will continue to promote investment in innovation and digital advances for a tourism sector that can provide opportunities for all. UNWTO will co-organize a Ministerial Summit and present a white paper on the relationship between music and tourism, on the occasion of the UK tourism fair, on 6 and 7 November 2018.

After the official celebration of the World Tourism Day 2018 (September 27), in Budapest (Hungary), with the theme "Tourism and digital transformation", and the forum "Tourism Tech Adventure: big data solutions", which is held in Manama (Bahrain) on November 1, UNWTO will organize this year's UNWTO / WTM Ministerial Summit on November 6, with the theme "Investment in tourism technology".

At the Summit, there will be an abundance of conversation about innovation and digital transformation, a priority for UNWTO, aimed at giving tourism the prominence it deserves in the digital agenda. A new disruptive format will be premiered, in which, for the first time, leaders from the private sector will participate. There will be a debate among investors about investment in tourism technology, followed by the ministerial segment, which this year will link both the public and private sectors, in order to set the agenda to ensure that the digital transformation of the sector improves its inclusion, sustainability and competitiveness.

Both round tables will be moderated by Richard Quest, CNN's most prominent international business correspondent, presenter of the Quest Means Business program, and will influence the creation of innovative ideas and partnerships that can boost investment. The issues that will be addressed include the development of an innovation ecosystem, data-driven decision making, the digital brand of destinations, or the role of government and policies in the intelligent management of tourism.

UNWTO presents the first report dedicated to music and tourism
UNWTO participation in the WTM will also include the presentation of a new white paper, prepared in collaboration with Procolombia and Sound Diplomacy, in which the role played by music in development, promotion and tourism experiences is analyzed. along with the economic benefits of the collaboration between music and tourism. The presentation of the report Music is the New Gastronomy (Music is the new gastronomy) on November 6 will be accompanied by an in-depth debate on the value of musical tourism.
