The GMCVB announced the latest tourism performance indicators that include a record 16 million visitors during September 2017 and August 2018, which represents an increase of + 1% over the same time of the previous year; despite Hurricane Irma. The terminal is nicknamed the "Crown of Miami" because of its distinctive shape. On November 2, the opening ceremony was held, which formally opened the new terminal to the public.
