For the first time, Turks & Caicos (TCI) was present at the prestigious IBTM Americas, the leading MICE tourism trade show, held on August 20 and 21 in Mexico City.
For the Caribbean archipelago, the presence at this event, which brings together the most important hosted buyers, companies, and event decision-makers, was an auspicious kick-off.
"We're leaving Mexico with very positive feelings. We've noticed a strong desire among the major players in MICE tourism for our destination, and that's something that comforts us," stated the island representatives. They noted that attendees see great potential in Mexico City because it appears to be an under-explored destination with much to offer and ideal for MICE.
During the days of action, representatives from the islands held more than 20 meetings and held important events with business leaders from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, and Mexico.
Ascending destiny
Undoubtedly, Turks and Caicos' wide and varied offerings allow it to grow not only in the MICE segment, but also in all tourism areas. Its unparalleled beaches, beautiful climate, and impeccable hospitality provide the perfect setting for a work event or simply a few days of relaxation.
It's worth noting that Providenciales—one of its most famous islands—was named the Caribbean's best incentive travel destination at the 2024 World MICE Awards. For this year's edition, 11 hotels are nominated in the Best MICE Hotel and Best Incentive Hotel categories, respectively.
To take into account
The official language on the islands is English, although it's easy to find people speaking Spanish. The currency is the US dollar, and when visiting, the United States, Canada, the European Union, and many other countries allow visa-free entry for 90 days with a valid passport.
All scheduled international flights to the Turks and Caicos Islands land at Providenciales International Airport (PLS), with the exception of one American Airlines Miami-South Caicos (XSC) flight.
Currently, there are connections from numerous cities in the United States, as well as from the United Kingdom, Canada, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, and Antigua.
