A new tourism promotion campaign for Uruguay took place at the Recoleta Grand Hotel, promoted by the Ministry of Tourism, the Uruguayan Chamber of Tourism, and with the strategic support of Buquebus. The event brought together more than 90 trade professionals, including travel agencies, operators, representatives of the MICE segment, and specialized media, with the aim of reaffirming the country's position in Argentina.
During the presentation, experiences that consolidate Uruguay as a close, exclusive, and human-scale destination were highlighted. These included the wine and cheese routes , which cover the seven wine-producing regions; rural and nature tourism , with horseback riding, country cuisine, astrotourism, and birdwatching; and wellness and health offerings , boosted by new air connections linking Montevideo with the coastal hot springs. Also highlighted were luxury tourism , sports tourism with its schedule of international competitions, the flagship sun and beach product , and the internationally recognized inclusive and LGBT+ tourism initiatives .
The event included a cultural moment with the presentation of Daniel "Tatita" Márquez , a representative of the country's brand, who offered an innovative robotic drum show , combining candombe, electronic music and rap, with the support of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANNI).
Argentina remains the main source market for visitors to Uruguay. In 2024, the country welcomed 1,705,090 Argentine tourists, with a total spending of $923.2 million and an average stay of six nights. This visitor profile combines vacations, gastronomy, shopping, and weekend getaways, reaffirming the strategic importance of this bilateral relationship.
The event was attended by Marina Cantera , president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Tourism; Mónica Tognola , from the Marketing Department of the Ministry of Tourism; and María Julia Fernández , promotion coordinator. Also participating were strategic partners from the private sector, such as Ramiro Barutta (Buemes DMC), Sebastián Pardo (Buquebus), Macarena Pérez (Dcom Travel), and Lucía Amestoy (DMC Uruguay Amestoy Hnos).
