This was announced by Minister David Collado when announcing the results of tourism performance in the Dominican Republic during the first eight months of this year, during an event held at a hotel in Santo Domingo.
The official said that during the January-August period, the country received 6,085,053 flights, 2% more than last year.
This growth is also reflected in maritime transport, with the arrival of 1,920,204 cruise passengers, representing an increase of 166% compared to 2019, 25% compared to 2023, and 5% compared to the first eight months of last year.
"We set another record, surpassing ourselves by receiving 8,005,257 visitors in the first eight months of this year," said Minister Collado.
The official reported that in August alone, the country received a total of 707,175 flights, 42% more than in 2019, 6% more than in 2023, and 4.7% more than last year.
Of those 707,175 tourists, 569,665 were foreigners, representing 81%, while 137,510 were of Dominican origin, equivalent to 19%.
"That means the country received 807,413 in August alone," the official said.
Among the sending countries that contributed the most visitors were the United States with 46%, Canada with 15%, Argentina with 6%, Colombia with 5%, and Puerto Rico with 3%.
The airports that received the most tourists in August were Punta Cana (58%), Las Américas (24%), Cibao (13%), Puerto Plata (3%), and La Romana (1%).
Collado emphasized that thanks to the strong public-private partnership, tourism will continue to grow and diversify.
Before announcing the figures, Minister Collado reviewed his successful tenure at the Ministry of Tourism.
He said that thanks to tireless work, the Dominican Republic is a world leader in tourism.
"We have worked tirelessly and transparently, with a formidable team. That's why we've succeeded," he emphasized.
