With the goal of strengthening Brazil's image as a welcoming, diverse, and sustainable tourist destination, Embratur will participate this week in the 9th International Diversity Conference in São Paulo. The event will bring together employees from companies, organizations, destinations, and government agencies, as well as thinkers and professionals linked to the event's pillars, to discuss business, culture, sports, and LGBT tourism.
During the Conference, the Agency will present strategies for the LGBT tourism segment, highlighting initiatives related to the Plano Brasis (Brazil's International Tourism Marketing Plan) and Feel Brasil. The Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Tourism will also announce its Press Trip, which will take place from September 13 to 18 in Bahia. The trip will feature journalists and influencers from Europe and the Americas to explore attractions related to the topic.
Daniel Noble, Supervisor of Afrotourism Diversity and Indigenous Peoples at Embratur, will give the presentation, during which the short film “Entre Sinais e Marés” will also be shown to participants.
According to Embratur President Marcelo Freixo, the agency plays a strategic role, and participating in the 2025 edition of the fair is another step toward promoting the country's image as a welcoming, diverse, and sustainable tourist destination. It also highlights initiatives and tools that strengthen Embratur's work with the LGBTQ+ community.
Embratur's presence at this event highlights Brazil's commitment to promoting its cultural and natural diversity, consolidating its position as a leader in inclusive tourism. Tourism is an engine of economic development, but also of civilization. Brazil needs to increasingly reaffirm this agenda. Homophobia has no place in the world we want to live in, Freixo emphasized.
“Between signs and tides”
The short film was selected for presentation at the event because it is a fictional story about a romance on Ilha do Mel (Paraná), starring a deaf person. It was one of the projects selected in Embratur's "Brazil with an S" call for projects promoting Brazilian tourism. The production has received numerous nominations and awards. It highlights the transversality and importance of audiovisual media as a tool for international tourism promotion and for discussing issues relevant to society.
Association
In 2023, Embratur and the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Tourism for LGBT+ individuals signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) that aims to join forces to boost international promotion and strengthen the marketing of Brazilian destinations considered strategic for the segment.
The Brazilian LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and expanding commercial and business relationships between Brazilians and foreigners. Its mission is to strengthen entrepreneurship and promote the socioeconomic and cultural development of the LGBT community.
