RIU allocates more than 3 million euros to social investment in 2024

The 2024 Annual Report covers Proudly Committed's first full year, with 104 actions that impacted more than 55,000 people directly and more than 82,000 indirectly

The chain is also making progress in environmental sustainability, with 72% of its hotels certified and a 61% reduction in emissions since 2021.

In 2024, RIU Hotels & Resorts allocated a total of €3,171,135 to social investment, as part of the first full year of its Proudly Committed strategy. The company carried out 104 initiatives with 88 strategic partners, directly impacting 55,624 people and indirectly impacting 82,644. The Children's axis accounted for 71% of the investment, followed by Biodiversity (22%) and the Local Community (7%).

Children continue to be the main focus of RIU's social investment. Among the programs, RIU's programs include research into childhood cancer, in which it has invested almost €2 million since 2014, as well as maternal and child health initiatives in Latin America and educational projects in Africa.

Nature and biodiversity conservation is advancing as one of the pillars of Proudly Committed. In 2024, the chain supported projects in destinations such as Mexico, the Maldives, Costa Rica, Mauritius, and the Dominican Republic, with reef restoration, coastal reforestation, and species protection initiatives in collaboration with scientific organizations.

RIU also works closely with the communities that host its hotels. In this area, RIU has funded training, development, and local cultural projects in countries in Africa and Latin America. It has also maintained its membership in ECPAT since 2012, of which it is currently a Top Member, and since 2021 has had an agreement with the IUF to strengthen equality and labor rights for its teams.

In terms of environmental progress, the 2024 Annual Report reflects a 10% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions per stay in 2024, representing a 61% decrease compared to 2021. Currently, 72% of RIU hotels have environmental certifications, with pioneering milestones such as zero food waste certification in all its hotels in Mallorca or the use of renewable electricity in 76% of its hotel facilities.
