RIU Hotels presented its Proudly Committed sustainability strategy in Cancún, Mexico. The event, held at the Riu Caribe, was led by Naomi Riu, the group's Executive Director and head of Corporate Social Responsibility, along with more than 100 guests, including municipal and state authorities from Quintana Roo, such as the State Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto, as well as the various organizations RIU supports, key players in the sector, and the media.

Naomi Riu and the directors of the CSR area, Catalina Alemany and Alma Tesillos, presented the progress made in the Proudly Committed strategy and the lines of action the chain has followed in recent years in terms of social investment, as well as figures on the investments made in Mexico.

In her opening speech, Naomi Riu emphasized that "we allocate social investment in Mexico to biodiversity projects, such as the protection of endangered species or coral restoration, and to community projects," emphasizing projects supporting children "because at RIU we believe that the best way to contribute to a society is by taking care of the little ones." She also explained that the chain has gone "from a social investment of just over USD 18,000 in 2015 to almost USD 1 million invested in 2024, figures we are replicating this year and which complete an investment of almost USD 6 million over the last ten years."

In her speech, Naomi explained the Proudly Committed sustainability strategy and detailed the investment figures made in recent years in Mexico.

On behalf of the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, and as Secretary of Tourism for the State, Bernardo Cueto stated, “From the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat, in this new era of tourism led by Governor Mara Lezama, we thank RIU Hotels for their tireless commitment to the Mexican Caribbean, a destination that thrives on tourism and sustainable businesses. With the genuine work that RIU Hotels does, they are building a more sustainable future for all. This alliance demonstrates that responsible tourism not only fosters economic growth, but also the well-being of our communities and the preservation of our natural paradise.”

In a comprehensive presentation of its CSR results, Catalina Alemany and Alma Tesillos outlined the scope of the projects RIU has been supporting in Mexico over the past 10 years across its three core areas of action (local community, children, and biodiversity), as well as the progress made in its Proudly Committed sustainability strategy. Since its implementation in 2024 and with clearly defined goals for 2026, RIU Hotels has consolidated a total of 60 initiatives worldwide.

RIU currently supports a total of 17 partners and carries out 19 initiatives in its Mexican destinations: Mazatlán, Los Cabos, Nayarit, Guadalajara, and Quintana Roo. This means that social investment in Mexico accounts for 29% of the chain's total global initiatives, having grown from €1.3 million in 2019 to just over €3 million in 2024, an increase of 143%.

In Quintana Roo, RIU Hotels supports organizations such as the Aitana Foundation, Oceanus, and Save the Children Mexico; in Mazatlán, it works closely with Proeduca Sinaloa and Back to Back Mexico; in Nayarit, it supports CANICA, ECOBAC (Whale Ecology and Conservation), and CEMBAB (Conservation of Marvelous Species of Banderas Bay); in Guadalajara, it invests socially with Corporativa de Fundaciones and Bosque Urbano de Extra; and in Los Cabos, it supports Los Niños del Capitán and Amigos de los Niños. RIU Hotels also has a strong alliance with Doctor Sonrisas, in Mexico City, and has generated significant synergy with ECPAT, with which it carries out important work to combat child and adolescent trafficking in the tourism sector. All of them received recognition for their good work from Naomi Riu, Catalina Alemany, and Alma Tesillos.
