The Port of Ushuaia welcomed the Ventus Australis , kicking off the new 2025-2026 cruise season. With 525 planned calls, the southernmost city on the planet is consolidating its position as a strategic point and the main gateway to Antarctica.
The president of the Provincial Port Authority, Roberto Murcia , emphasized that the cruise seasons "are starting earlier each year," emphasizing that "the ski season hasn't even ended yet, and we are receiving cruise ships that also contribute to the season." He also stressed that investments in infrastructure and services "produce better conditions to strengthen the season, generating a framework of confidence for the operators and providers that operate in the local port."
Along the same lines, the president of the Fuegian Tourism Institute, Dante Querciali , highlighted the importance of Antarctic tourism, noting that "we welcome hundreds of visitors from all over the world, who come to Tierra del Fuego as part of these trips and travel to the End of the World on their journey to the White Continent." He also emphasized the collaborative effort to "position the destination as a gateway to Antarctica," with the expectation that cruise passengers will enjoy the attractions and services offered in the province.
According to last season's report prepared by Infuetur , 251,251 visitors were recorded, including crew and passengers, distributed across 565 voyages on 66 vessels. The majority were Antarctic cruises, with 422 calls and more than 105,000 passengers, while regional cruises accounted for 99 voyages and international cruises, 44.
With these figures, Tierra del Fuego AeIAS reaffirms its leadership as the world's main gateway to Antarctica , taking advantage of its strategic location and offering thousands of tourists each year the chance to experience a unique experience in one of the planet's last virgin territories.
