Procolombia and Arajet join forces to boost tourism between Santo Domingo and Cartagena

Arajet, the Dominican flag carrier, announced the consolidation of its route to Cartagena de Indias with two weekly flights, on Fridays and Sundays, from Las Américas International Airport, offering Dominicans the opportunity to discover one of Colombia's most iconic tourist destinations

According to data from Procolombia, the tourist flow between the two countries continues to grow. In 2024, Colombia recorded 133,619 Dominican tourist arrivals, a 15.40% increase compared to the previous year. Between January and July 2025 alone, 75,395 Dominican visitors were recorded, representing a 0.90% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Likewise, the Dominican Republic has maintained a strong reception of Colombian visitors. According to the Central Bank, 335,819 Colombian passengers arrived in 2024, positioning Colombia as the third largest source of tourists to the island, with 4.7% of total visitors. Furthermore, according to the Ministry of Tourism, on a scale of 5, Colombian visitors gave their satisfaction a score of 4.6, reflecting their high willingness to return.

The event was led by Colombian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Darío Villamizar Herrera, who emphasized the importance of the direct connection between these cities to promote visits that can boost tourism and business between Colombia and the Dominican Republic.

Alexandra Baret, Senior Manager of Channel Sales and Distribution, stated, “Cartagena is a destination steeped in history, culture, gastronomy, and spectacular beaches, and thanks to Arajet, it's closer than ever to Dominicans. With our direct flights and low fares, we continue to strengthen the air bridge that unites two peoples who are increasingly traveling together.”

ProColombia highlighted the role of connectivity in strengthening tourism, cultural, and commercial exchange. “We are very pleased with Arajet’s commitment to Cartagena, a World Heritage destination that enchants visitors with its rich history and hospitality. For Dominicans, it represents the opportunity to experience unique experiences in the Colombian Caribbean,” said Santiago De Los Rios Cardona, ProColombia Representative for the Dominican Republic.

Likewise, Corpoturismo Cartagena emphasized the importance of the arrival of Dominican tourists to the walled city, highlighting, "The direct connection with Santo Domingo is vital to continue consolidating Cartagena as a preferred international destination. Dominicans find in our city a family-friendly, vibrant, historic place with multiple tourism segments and memorable experiences," stated Liliana Rodríguez, Executive President of the Corporation.

With this route, Arajet reaffirms its commitment to facilitating access to strategic destinations in Latin America and contributing to the region's economic and tourism development, strengthening trade between two nations that are increasingly becoming popular travel destinations.
