Portugal will be the guest country at the Latin American International Tourism Fair (FIT), which will take place from September 27 to 30 at La Rural, the Buenos Aires Fairgrounds. At a prominent stand, the European country will showcase the richness of its identity through cultural, culinary, wine, and artistic offerings, combining tradition and modernity in a comprehensive experience.

The program will include tastings of renowned Portuguese cuisine, considered one of the most creative in Europe, as well as its wines, which express the uniqueness of each region. Its natural landscapes and surfing, one of Portugal's most sought-after activities worldwide, will also be highlighted. Culture and art will be showcased through live exhibitions that reflect the essence of each regional destination.

Within this framework, Andrés Deyá, president of FIT and FAEVYT, emphasized that Portugal's presence represents "a tremendous source of pride and a great opportunity to strengthen the relationship between both nations through tourism." He also emphasized that these types of initiatives reinforce the international character of the fair and consolidate its role as a strategic space for business development, cultural exchange, and destination promotion in Latin America.

The Portuguese Ambassador to Argentina, Gonçalo Teles Gomes, noted that tourism contributes 12% to Portugal's GDP and that the country welcomed 31.5 million visitors in 2024, projecting a new record in 2025. He also considered Argentina a priority market, with an expected 28% growth in arrivals, and highlighted the importance of reactivating the Buenos Aires-Lisbon flight to consolidate the bilateral relationship.

Bernardo Barreiros Cardoso, Visit Portugal's director for South America, affirmed that authenticity is the destination's hallmark. "Our greatest secret lies in the people, who take enormous pleasure in welcoming and sharing their culture. Portugal is still an undiscovered destination in Argentina, and it is this invitation to discovery that we want to extend," he noted.

The Iberian country will promote itself through its seven tourist regions, each with its own distinct identity: Lisbon, Porto, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores, Madeira, Centro, and Norte. In addition to its gastronomic and cultural diversity, it also boasts an exceptionally well-preserved historical heritage, security—Portugal is among the ten most peaceful countries in the world—and its proximity to major European centers, making it an accessible and attractive destination.

The organizers emphasized that FIT has established itself as one of the world's leading tourism events and the most important in Latin America, attracting the attention of operators, professionals, and travelers. Portugal's presence as a guest country reaffirms the event's international character and its importance as a promotional and business platform for the sector.
