World Tourism Day 2025 made it clear that the sector not only generates a global economic impact but also has an enormous responsibility in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. According to the World Tourism Organization, international travel grew 5% in the first half of the year, reaching 690 million tourists. Furthermore, data from the WTTC indicates that tourism contributed USD 10.9 trillion to global GDP in 2024 and supported 357 million jobs, demonstrating its power as an economic and social driver.
But beyond the numbers, the spotlight fell on the technological solutions that are transforming the way we travel and manage destinations, helping to reduce the environmental footprint and generate benefits for local communities.
Roman Townsend, Managing Director of Belvera Partners, highlighted the contribution of travel tech companies that offer AI-based solutions, digital applications, and pesticide-free systems, benefiting both the environment and society.
Daniel Boyle, General Manager of Transport at Terrapinn, highlighted the investment airlines and airports are making in predictive analytics, digital twins, and AI-driven operations to optimize flight routes, reduce emissions, and improve punctuality.
Martim Gois, CEO and co-founder of Valpas, explained how his IoT device combats pests in hotels without using pesticides, demonstrating that sustainability and premium experience can go hand in hand.
Rubén Gutiérrez, president of GoNexus Group, reaffirmed the company's commitment to sustainable practices such as digitalization, recycling, and social programs, with the goal of being 100% paper-free by 2027.
Enrique Espinel, COO of Civitatis, highlighted digitalization and diversification to promote authentic experiences in less-crowded destinations, supporting more than 8,000 local providers.
Sally Bunnell, CEO of NaviSavi, highlighted the importance of empowering local creators and small businesses, fostering a circular digital economy.
Francisco Sardón, president of Impulsa Igualdad, recalled from TUR4all that sustainability also implies inclusion and accessibility, with experiences that generate employment, boost the local economy, and protect the environment.
The message from this edition is clear: the sustainable transformation of tourism depends as much on technological innovation as on a social and inclusive commitment.
