“It was very important for Antigua and Barbuda to be present at FIT. Our participation was part of a long-standing strategy we are developing across Latin America. Over the four days, we had the opportunity to meet with trade representatives and end consumers to communicate our serious intention to penetrate the Latin American market,” Spencer summarized.

World-renowned for its 365 beaches—one for every day of the year—this country, surrounded by turquoise seas and soft sands, offers more than just sun and leisure. Nelson's Dockyard, the only active Georgian-era shipyard in the world and a World Heritage Site that will celebrate its 300th anniversary in 2025, Sailing Week for sports lovers, Carnival, one of the most important in the Caribbean, and the warmth of its people are some of the highlights it offers.

Information greed

During the four-day fair, visitors had the opportunity to receive detailed information about the country and learn more about its colorful and festive climate. Carnival, one of the largest summer festivals in the Caribbean, air connectivity, and accommodation options were some of the most requested topics from attendees. In total, more than 160 meetings were held with travel operators and agents, demonstrating the trade show's interest in marketing this destination.

Furthermore, in a clear signal to attract Latin American markets, a direct flight between Cartagena, Colombia, and Saint John's, the capital of Antigua, is expected to be launched in the second half of October, through a joint venture between Liat Air and BluSea, the airline operator for the island nation.

It's worth noting that, after the fair, the Antigua and Barbuda delegation held a breakfast meeting with more than 30 Argentine tourism operators and agents—and suppliers from the islands also joined virtually—with the mission of continuing the growing number of Argentine arrivals to the Caribbean country.
