Brazil recorded an unprecedented milestone in its tourism history: between January and September 2025, the country welcomed 7,099,237 international tourists, a 45% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This figure marks a new historic record for the South American country, which surpassed the annual visitor total reached in 2024 in just nine months.
September also set a new record, registering 570,934 international arrivals, the highest number for that month in the entire historical series. Year-over-year growth was 28.2% compared to September 2024.
With this performance, Brazil surpassed the annual target set by the 2024-2027 National Tourism Plan , which projected the arrival of 6.9 million foreign tourists during 2025. The cumulative result through September exceeded that figure by 2.9%, consolidating the country as one of the top destinations in Latin America.
Embratur President Marcelo Freixo highlighted the positive impact of the record on the local economy. “This record figure is reflected in the lives of Brazilians through jobs, income, and opportunities in every corner of the country. Small business owners are expanding their businesses, artisans are selling more, and guides are finding more work. Tourism is boosting the economy and transforming lives,” he noted.
For Tourism Minister Celso Sabino, the results reinforce Brazil's position on the global stage. "We are experiencing a historic moment for Brazilian tourism. We have already surpassed our annual goal three months ahead of schedule, which demonstrates the strength of our sector and the global confidence in Brazil," he stated.
In terms of source markets, Argentina leads the way with more than 2.7 million visitors between January and September, followed by Chile with 604,786 tourists and the United States with 564,160. In Europe, the main source markets were France, Portugal, and Germany , which together accounted for 537,589 visitors.
The record achieved reflects the result of a sustained strategy by the Federal Government to strengthen Brazil's international presence as a diverse, sustainable, and opportunity-generating destination.
