San José, Costa Rica, October 8, 2025 – Viva, the airline of flex-YES-bility , announced the launch of its new Monterrey (MTY) – San José (SJO) – Monterrey (MTY) route, which will begin operating on October 30 with two weekly frequencies. With this flight, the company will officially begin operations in Costa Rica, strengthening the connection between both countries and offering Costa Rican travelers the possibility of accessing more than 45 destinations in Mexico and the United States.

The announcement was made during a commemorative event organized in conjunction with AERIS, operator of Juan Santamaría International Airport. The route, which will depart on Mondays and Fridays from Monterrey and on Tuesdays and Saturdays from San José, will provide new opportunities for both tourism and business.

“Connecting San José with Monterrey is key to strengthening tourism from northern Mexico. This route will make it easier for business owners and families from that city to reach Costa Rica and enjoy our nature and culture,” said William Rodríguez, Costa Rica's Minister of Tourism.

For his part, Ricardo Hernández, Executive Director of AERIS, emphasized: “The opening of this route marks a milestone in connectivity between Costa Rica and Mexico. With this direct flight, more travelers will have the opportunity to visit us and enjoy our 'Pura Vida' experience, strengthening the tourism and cultural ties between both countries.”

From Monterrey, passengers can easily connect to the most attractive destinations in Mexico and the United States, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Cancun, Los Cabos, Cozumel, Las Vegas, Chicago, and New York, among many others.

“We are very excited to launch this new route in a new country, especially since we will be connecting Costa Rica with Monterrey, our home,” said Walfred Castro, Viva’s Corporate Communications Director. “We invite you to take advantage of this new connection and discover everything Viva has to offer.”

The launch comes as Viva celebrates its 19th anniversary, Mexico's leading low-cost airline, which has transported more than 165 million passengers and operates more than 190 routes to 60 destinations in Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Cuba, and now Costa Rica.

The company also celebrates the arrival of its 100th aircraft, consolidating its fleet—composed of 57 Airbus A320s and 43 A321s—as the youngest and most modern in Mexico and Latin America.

Viva travelers can enjoy the benefits of the Doters loyalty program, with more than 10 million members, in addition to the advantages of its flex-YES-bility offering, which allows them to change routes, dates, names, or even transfer tickets to other people.

With this expansion, Viva reaffirms its commitment to regional connectivity and its purpose of “Making Flying Possible for Everyone.”
