Throughout the year, international tourism to the country has shown signs of dynamism and steady growth. Some traditional markets continue to lead the flow of travelers, while others, although with lower participation, show significant increases, opening up ever more opportunities to continue positioning Colombia and conquering new regions.
Between January and August 2025, Colombia received more than 3 million foreign visitors, a figure that represents a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.
In South America, Peru has emerged as one of the most dynamic source markets for Colombia so far this year, with 26.5% growth and 172,000 visitors.
The profile of these visitors reveals a young majority, with 46% of them between the ages of 21 and 40. This segment is seeking experiences focused on Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín, partly driven by increased air connectivity since the end of 2023 and by Peruvians' interest in tourism products focused on culture, local traditions, gastronomy, and shopping, in addition to sun and sand. Other countries in the region that have seen considerable increases are Argentina, with 25.6% and 96,000 visitors; and Brazil, with 21.3% more and 135,000 travelers.
In Central America, El Salvador stands out, with a 64.2% increase; and Guatemala, with a 24.8% increase. Meanwhile, in Europe, Spain stands out, with a 15.8% increase and 132,000 visitors; and France, with an 8.3% increase and 71,000 visitors. However, although with a lower share, Poland achieved a high growth of 60.5%, with 10,000 visitors. These visitors are looking for cultural, nature, and adventure experiences in Colombia, as well as city and family trips. Couples travel is also a significant trend among Poles visiting Colombia. Finally, Portugal registered a 19.7% increase, with 10,000 visitors.
Finally, in Asia, the largest increases were recorded in China, with a 14.5% increase and 21,000 visitors; Japan, with a 9.2% increase and 5,000 visitors; and India, with an 8.1% increase and 12,000 travelers.
"This current outlook reflects a diversification in the origin of travelers visiting Colombia and demonstrates that the presence of our business leaders at various tourism fairs around the world, showcasing the wealth and potential of our country and positioning distinctive products, has generated greater interest in more international tourism markets, the arrival of new airlines to the country, and with it, the opening of new air routes," explained Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of ANATO.
