Sabre introduces first agentic AI APIs for the travel industry

New programming interfaces (APIs), accessible through a unique technology developed by Sabre called Model Context Protocol (MCP) — which functions as a “universal translator” — open up a range of possibilities to automate purchasing, reservation and customer service processes using artificial intelligence on a massive scale

Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR), a global technology leader for the travel industry, today announced its first agentic solutions. These solutions build on the global reach and robustness of its travel data platform—one of the most comprehensive and sophisticated in the industry—to usher in a new era of intelligent marketing powered by artificial intelligence.

The release includes APIs designed for intelligent agents, enabled by a proprietary technology developed by Sabre called the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This system acts as a “universal translator,” capable of interpreting the technical language of the travel ecosystem for any AI agent. Together, these tools enable artificial intelligence to search, book, manage, and optimize travel in real time, turning the promise of agentic AI into a practical solution that accelerates innovation across the industry.

With these capabilities, Sabre aims to go beyond simple digital automation to solve common problems that often consume time and cause frustration for customers. The initial features will focus on flights, hotels, and post-booking services.

The possibilities for transforming the travel experience through agentic AI are virtually limitless. For example, tools could include an IROPS proxy agent that waits on the line with the airline, secures a same-day rebooking, pays with a stored card, and automatically updates the traveler's calendar; a hotel operations agent that calls at midnight to confirm a late arrival, ensures the room isn't resold, and requests oat milk for breakfast; an interagency collaboration agent that works directly with another agency's AI to close complex changes like split tickets or fare combinations; a visa and compliance agent that completes online forms, pays fees, and attaches documents to the booking file; and an expense management agent that collects receipts, categorizes them correctly, and reports them according to company policy. These are tasks that currently take travelers and agents hours to complete, and which could be automated in the background thanks to Sabre's MCP and agent APIs, creating more seamless experiences and reducing costs.

This innovation is supported by Sabre IQ, the company's systemic artificial intelligence layer. Sabre IQ has evolved from business optimization to the use of large-scale language models (LLMs) capable of understanding and responding to natural and conversational language.

However, being “smart” isn’t enough. The real differentiator is the data. The Sabre IQ AI layer is powered by an unparalleled travel knowledge base built on the Sabre Travel Data Cloud, developed in close collaboration with Google. This cloud contains over 50 petabytes of historical and real-time signals, all aggregated, anonymized, and encrypted using strict access control mechanisms that comply with applicable legal and contractual obligations. To put this in perspective: 50 petabytes could contain all of humanity’s written works, in all languages, multiple times over.

“There’s a difference between being intelligent and being truly intelligent at scale,” said Garry Wiseman, chief product and technology officer at Sabre. “With our new MCP system and agent-ready APIs—backed by Sabre IQ and our industry-leading data set—we’re making a world of difference. This is the most advanced enterprise AI solution in the travel industry, designed so the entire industry can build on it. The possibilities of the future are already taking shape, and Sabre is leading that change.”

Unlike isolated and fragmented tools, Sabre's new agentic capabilities are natively integrated into SabreMosaic™, the company's modular, cloud-based platform. This enables airlines, agencies, and developers to adopt intelligent workflows without compromising scalability, resilience, or reliability. For travel sellers, this translates into real value: automation of complex processes, reduced operational costs, smarter itineraries, and more opportunities to deliver
personalized proposals that truly convert.

Together, these innovations mark the beginning of a new era in travel marketing, where artificial intelligence operates seamlessly across the entire ecosystem, and Sabre sets the pace for what's next.
