Barbados shines once again on the world map of romantic tourism after being named "Caribbean's Leading Wedding Destination" by the World Travel Awards (WTA). The recognition, given during the Caribbean and North America Gala Ceremony held on October 4 at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, cements the island's position as one of the world's most iconic locations for wedding celebrations.
Cheryl Carter, Chief Operating Officer of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), expressed her pride in this achievement, which highlights the island's commitment to excellence in the wedding industry:
“Barbados is deeply honored to receive this prestigious recognition. This award is a testament to the pride with which our nation welcomes couples who choose to start their lives together on our island,” Carter said.
The executive emphasized that the dedication and creativity of local wedding planners guarantee unique experiences for each couple:
“Over the years, Barbados has been the setting for weddings of all kinds—from the most intimate to the most extravagant—inspired by our culture, our landscapes, and our world-class hospitality. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to excellence and delivering exceptional destination wedding experiences.”
BTMI Caribbean Director Graham Clarke also welcomed the outcome, highlighting the collaborative efforts of all tourism industry professionals:
“This recognition reflects not only the unique appeal of our island, but also the dedication of our exceptional industry partners, whose tireless efforts make every celebration an extraordinary experience.”
For his part, Graham Cooke, founder of the World Travel Awards, underlined the value of these recognitions as a symbol of quality in the global tourism industry:
“Our winners are outstanding examples of excellence in tourism. I congratulate each of them for helping to raise the standards of the region.”
Since its inception in 1993, the World Travel Awards have recognized excellence in all areas of tourism, travel, and hospitality. Today, its brand is synonymous with prestige and represents one of the highest honors in the international travel industry.
With this new recognition, Barbados reaffirms its leadership as a romantic destination and continues to establish itself as the dream setting for couples looking to say "I do" surrounded by white-sand beaches, magical sunsets, and the unmistakable warmth of the Caribbean.
