Meliá Hotels International, in partnership with the Puntacana Group, reaffirms its commitment to the Dominican Republic's tourism sector with the joint development of the Meliá Bergantín Beach hotel. The project will mark the beginning of a new phase aimed at positioning Puerto Plata as an internationally renowned destination, thus restoring tourism prominence to the country's northern coast.

Punta Bergantín is a Dominican government trust fund, promoted by Grupo Reservas and the Ministry of Tourism, to develop a tourist complex in Puerto Plata. The initiative covers more than 10 million square meters in a setting of great natural beauty, which will be preserved through a low-density urban development model.

On October 21st, Gabriel Escarrer, President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, and Frank Elías Rainieri, CEO of the Puntacana Group, attended the laying of the cornerstone of the Meliá Bergantín Beach. The event also included representation from other entities involved in the project, including Leonardo Aguilera, President of Banco de Reservas; Christopher Paniagua, President of Banco Popular; and Andrés Marranzini Grullón, Executive Director of the project.

During the event, both Gabriel Escarrer and Frank Elías Rainieri emphasized the commitment of both groups to tourism in the Dominican Republic. Gabriel Escarrer stated: “We are proud to contribute to the development of Puerto Plata, combining sustainability, innovation, and respect for the environment and its people. This project represents the quality tourism we believe in: one that generates value for everyone and is committed to local communities.”

For his part, Frank Elías Rainieri stated: “Each new hotel brand reinforces Puerto Plata's international credibility. Punta Bergantín will not just be a collection of beachfront hotels, but a meeting place for nature, culture, and innovation. This project is an act of gratitude and hope, and marks a new chapter in the history of Dominican tourism.”
