Uruguay kicked off a new cruise season with the arrival of the luxury expedition yacht Scenic Eclipse to the port of Montevideo, marking the beginning of a period that promises a strong boost for inbound tourism. The country is preparing to welcome dozens of vessels that will stop in both Montevideo and Punta del Este, consolidating its role as a strategic hub on the South Atlantic routes.

Prior to the season's start, the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) brought together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to coordinate actions and strengthen the visitor experience. During the meeting, topics related to port logistics, tourism services, sustainability, and international promotion were discussed. Also participating was Marco Ferraz, Executive President of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) South America, who highlighted the opportunities presented by Uruguay in the growing regional cruise market.

The arrival of the Scenic Eclipse symbolizes the tourism profile the country seeks to enhance: a high-value segment, with visitors who combine luxury, sustainability, and personalized experiences. With capacity for 228 passengers, this vessel features luxury suites, helicopters, a submarine, and expedition activities, representing the standard of excellence that Uruguay aspires to attract in the coming years.

Authorities from the Ministry of Tourism, the National Port Authority (ANP), and the Montevideo City Council participated in the official reception, reaffirming their joint commitment to consolidating the season as one of the most significant of the last decade.
