Uruguay's Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni, participated in the 33rd Meeting of Tourism Ministers of Mercosur and Associated States, held in Brazil. This meeting brought together the region's top tourism authorities to strengthen integration and collaborative work in tourism.
During his speech, Menoni emphasized the importance of these exchange spaces, which allow for the sharing of experiences and perspectives on tourism. "Tourism is constantly changing, and there is a window of opportunity that can only be seized if we work together," the minister stated.
He also reiterated Uruguay's support for the joint promotion of the continent under the "Visit South America" brand, highlighting the need to incorporate the private sector—such as chambers, federations, and associations—into discussions about tourism products. "Without the participation of this segment, products do not become concrete, marketable proposals," he noted.
The minister was accompanied by the National Director of Tourism, Cristian Pos, and official Paola Bianchi, who participated in the 77th Specialized Meeting on Tourism of Mercosur, where topics of common interest to member countries were discussed.
Progress in regional initiatives
Within the framework of the meeting, the 2026 work plan for the "Visit South America" brand was approved, which includes the continuation of promotional activities, the expansion of the digital presence, and the development of new regional tourism products.
The progress of the "Jesuit Way" project was also highlighted, with support for the "Routes to the Past" methodology presented by Argentina. This methodology seeks to develop self-guided itineraries and strengthen bilateral and trilateral circuits between countries.
Regarding gastronomic tourism, the ministers assessed the progress of the 2024–2027 Action Plan, validating the thematic sub-brands that identify products, experiences, and destinations associated with the continent's culinary richness.
Finally, the importance of nature tourism was emphasized, promoting the development of the "Southern Nature Routes" as a strategy to strengthen regional circuits and encourage sustainable tourism.
Uruguay will assume the Pro Tempore Presidency of Mercosur in the second half of 2026, reaffirming its commitment to integration, cooperation, and the strengthening of regional tourism.
