Mar del Plata participated in the Tourist Innovation Summit (TIS) 2025, held in Seville, Spain, through the Municipal Tourism and Culture Entity, where it presented the progress achieved within the framework of its incorporation into the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI) and the strengthening of its international brand Visit Mar del Plata.

The meeting, recognized as one of the most important forums for tourism innovation globally, brought together international leaders and specialists in the sector to discuss governance, sustainability, accessibility and technology applied to tourism.

During her participation, Valeria Méndez, Director of Tourism for Mar del Plata, was invited to speak on the Latin American panel to share the local experience in applying Big Data tools and technology to tourism management. “We have been working to make Mar del Plata a smart tourism destination, applying data analysis systems for decision-making in public policy, in line with international trends in smart governance,” the official explained.

Méndez also highlighted the progress linked to the five strategic pillars of the DTI Network —governance, innovation, accessibility, sustainability and technology—, noting that the city is integrating different actions under a common strategy that seeks to optimize planning and strengthen tourism competitiveness.

Among the main policies underway are the tourism accessibility programs implemented since 2008, the sustainability and water purity initiatives developed together with Obras Sanitarias, and the continuation of the international Blue Flag certifications, obtained by various beaches in the city.

During the event, the local delegation held meetings with SEGITTUR, the organization that created the Smart Tourist Destination concept, with which Mar del Plata collaborates based on its indicators. “These meetings and international exchange strengthen our work and encourage us to continue developing new proposals to improve the tourist experience in Mar del Plata,” Méndez noted.

Participation in the Tourist Innovation Summit 2025 reaffirms the commitment of the Municipal Tourism and Culture Authority to building a sustainable, inclusive and innovative tourism model that enhances the city's positioning both nationally and internationally.
