The initiative toured New York, New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia, consolidating the presence of the Dominican north coast in the main source markets of the northeastern United States.
The circuit featured renowned companies in the sector, such as Amhsa Marina Hotels & Resorts, Viva Wyndham, Lifestyle Holidays Hotels and Resorts, Emotions by Hodelpa, and Manureva Tours. Progress on flagship projects like Punta Bergantín was also highlighted, as well as renowned tourist attractions including Ocean World Adventure Park, Caribbean Adventure Tours, and Chukka Caribbean Adventures. This participation strengthens the Dominican Republic's comprehensive offering to travel agents and strategic partners in the U.S. market.
The tour was led by Karina Ramos, director of the OPT New York; Fernando Abreu, director of Air Connectivity at MITUR; and Birgitt Heinsen, president of the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster, who together with representatives from the public and private sectors presented the latest developments and progress of the destination.
During the meetings, MITUR highlighted the progress in air connectivity to Puerto Plata, achieved through agreements with airlines such as American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta and United, which project a significant increase in seat availability from key cities such as Miami, New York, Newark, Charlotte, Atlanta and Boston for the period January-July 2026.
These figures reflect the positive impact of joint management between the public and private sectors, which continues to strengthen Puerto Plata's position as a competitive and easily accessible destination.
The Roadshow began on Monday the 20th, with a meeting for the Dominican and international press in New York, which was attended by prominent allies, including the Dominican consul Jesús “Chu” Vásquez and Jesús Burgos, president of the Committee of Puerto Plateños residing in the United States and Canada, who highlighted the importance of continuing to strengthen ties with the Dominican diaspora and publicizing the facilities to bolster tourism to the Dominican Republic from this area.
The Cluster's president, Birgitt Heinsen, highlighted the work of the Ministry of Tourism in coordinating and developing these meetings, especially through the OPT New York, directed by Karina Ramos, and the technical support of Fernando Abreu, responsible for the air connectivity strategy of MITUR.
“This Roadshow has been a testament to the joint commitment between the public and private sectors. We have felt the enthusiasm of travel agents and the Dominican diaspora, who continue to choose Puerto Plata as a vacation and investment destination. We thank the Ministry of Tourism for its vision and constant support, and for continuing to open doors for our destination,” said Heinsen.
