The alert in the Bahamas has ended after Hurricane Melissa passed through

This confirms that all hurricane alerts and warnings have officially ended

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology, in coordination with the Disaster Risk Management Authority, has issued a nationwide end-of-alert notice. Airports across The Bahamas, including those on Grand Bahama, Abaco, and Eleuthera, have resumed normal operations. Minimal impact has been reported, and communities remain safe.

Following the announcement, the Bahamas Airport Authority conducted security inspections at airports in the central region, including Eleuthera, Harbour Island, New Providence, the Berry Islands, Andros, and the Exumas, as well as in the southeastern region, including Long Island, Cat Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Crooked Island, Acklins, and Mayaguana.

Most airports have reopened, while operations at the following locations remained under review:

Rum Cay Airport, Rum Cay;
Deadman's Cay Airport, Long Island; and
Stella Maris Airport, Long Island.

Authorities reported minimal damage to airports and surrounding communities and continued to assess conditions to ensure a safe resumption of operations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investment and Aviation, the Honorable I. Chester Cooper, stated, “The end of alert notice allows Bahamians and visitors to safely return to our islands. We are proud of the resilience of our communities, the dedication of our emergency response teams, and the readiness of our airports to welcome everyone back.”
