The northern coastal destination shone brightly during the Copa Airlines and Copa Vacations Fam & Press Trip, held from October 28 to November 1. The experience gathered more than a hundred travel agents, journalists, and influencers from across Latin America, who experienced firsthand the authenticity, diversity, and warmth that define Puerto Plata.

Organized by the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), in coordination with the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster, the Association of Hotels, Restaurants, and Tourism Companies of the North (Ashonorte), and other industry associations, this Mega Fam Trip showcased the many facets that make Puerto Plata a complete, versatile, and vibrant destination.

The itinerary featured unforgettable experiences blending adventure, nature, culture, and hospitality — including Chukka Caribbean Adventures’ Buggies and Zipline, the natural wonder of the 27 Charcos of Damajagua, and an immersive visit to Ocean World Adventure Park, where participants explored its extraordinary marine ecosystem.

Guests also enjoyed a cultural tour aboard Ecomotions’ Trolley Bus and Classic Cars, discovering the charming streets of Puerto Plata’s Historic Center, local museums, and the Macorix Rum House. The evening concluded with a destination presentation dinner at Blue JackTar Convention Center, where hotels and local tour operators showcased the region’s quality and diversity.

The program continued in Sosúa and Cabarete, with visits to Amhsa Marina & Ocean Club and Viva Wyndham, followed by a beachfront lunch and a themed Cabarete-style party at Villa Taina, capturing the free and lively essence of the northern coast.

The final day offered a spectacular natural experience at Cayo Arena, organized by Camel Exploring Safari and Dominicana Experience DMC, featuring turquoise waters and breathtaking scenery. That night, the group celebrated at La Lola Beach Club on the Puerto Plata Malecón, dancing and toasting amid music and folklore, closing a memorable week in style.

Birgitt Heinsen, President of the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster, highlighted that the event reaffirms Puerto Plata’s position as a leading tourism destination in the Dominican Republic’s north region.

“We want to thank the Ministry of Tourism, Copa Vacations, and Copa Airlines for believing in Puerto Plata and making this initiative possible, connecting Latin America with our destination,” she said.

Participants represented Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Copa Airlines announced that, starting January 13, 2026, it will offer direct connections between Panama and the cities of Puerto Plata and Santiago de los Caballeros, with three weekly flights to each, expanding tourism opportunities in the northern region.

The success of the Fam Trip was made possible thanks to the support of numerous hotels, operators, and tourism institutions, reaffirming that Puerto Plata is a destination to live, enjoy, and remember.
