With its characteristic spirit of exploration and commitment to authentic destinations, Meliá Hotels International announces its arrival in Honduras with the opening of its first hotel on the island of Roatán, one of the Caribbean Sea's best-kept secrets. The new property, which will operate under the revamped Sol by Meliá vacation brand, will open its doors in December, embracing the essence of a reinvented summer vacation for today's traveler, in an environment of wild beauty and absolute tranquility.

Located on the island's south coast, away from the tourist bustle of West End, the hotel allows travelers to enjoy pristine beaches like Camp Bay, explore mangrove tunnels in Oak Ridge, or access hidden gems like Little French Key by boat. However, one of Roatán's greatest treasures is its location within the Mesoamerican Reef System, the second largest reef system in the world, stretching from Mexico to Honduras. This marine ecosystem is home to extraordinary biodiversity, including turtles, rays, tropical fish, and the majestic whale shark, making Roatán a premier destination for diving and snorkeling.

Sol Roatán Media Luna Resort – currently operating as Media Luna Resort & Beach Club – will be a 4-star hotel with facilities designed to suit all tastes: a buffet restaurant, an outdoor pool, children's activities, a diving center with a private dock, and soon, a new spa and event and meeting space. The hotel will undergo a series of renovations to reflect the new attributes of the Sol brand, which celebrates the essence of classic summer vacations, reinterpreted for today's world. With a functional lifestyle design, integrated technology, and innovative offerings, the brand creates experiences designed for modern, multigenerational families, as well as couples, groups of friends, and senior travelers, in an environment where everyone feels welcome. From themed activities and entertainment for all ages to spaces for relaxation and connecting with nature, Sol invites you to enjoy your vacation like never before.

This milestone has been made possible thanks to the close collaboration between Meliá and the HMResorts group, led by businessman Piero Dibattista, whose vision and commitment to the tourism development of Roatán has remained firm throughout the years.

As Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, stated, “Roatán represents a unique opportunity for Meliá: an emerging destination with unparalleled natural beauty and enormous potential for family tourism. With Sol by Meliá, we want to offer our guests a fun, modern experience connected to the environment, in one of the most beautiful corners of the Caribbean, helping us to further consolidate our leadership in the vacation sector.”

With this opening, Meliá reinforces its presence in the Caribbean and continues its strategic expansion in the Americas, focusing on authentic and sustainable destinations that connect with new generations of travelers.
