Rio de Janeiro has been chosen as the world's number one travel destination for Christmas and New Year's, according to a Google Flights survey published by Travel + Leisure magazine. The study, which analyzed search trends for airline tickets for the end of the year, placed the "Marvelous City" above iconic destinations such as New York, Paris, and Tokyo.
Renowned for its iconic beaches, warm climate, and diverse cultural offerings, Rio de Janeiro solidifies its position as one of the most attractive cities in the Southern Hemisphere during December. The publication highlighted that the combination of nature, music, and local hospitality makes the city a unique destination for celebrating the holidays.
In addition to this recognition, Rio de Janeiro was a key player at the 32nd edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) for South America, where it received awards such as Best Beach Destination, Best City Break Destination, and Best Events and Festivals Destination. In the hotel sector, the Penthouse of the iconic Copacabana Palace was awarded Best Hotel Room in South America.
The city's tourism boom is also reflected in its record figures. Between January and September, Rio received 1,630,927 international tourists, a 51.7% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from Embratur.
