Sandals Resorts International (SRI) recently announced its plans to begin welcoming guests again in Jamaica as of Saturday, 6 December 2025, at its resorts in Ocho Rios and Negril. This decision follows a thorough post-storm evaluation of each of the chain’s eight resorts in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa.
Following debris clean-up and completion of landscaping and repair works at each location, Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Royal Plantation, Sandals Ocho Rios, Sandals Negril and Beaches Negril will open their doors with all facilities and services available for guests.
The other three resorts in the chain in Jamaica — Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals South Coast — will have a broader timeframe for improvements and will reopen by 30 May 2026.
“Jamaica is a large and diverse island; and that is how each region experienced the storm differently,” said Adam Stewart, Chief Executive of Sandals Resorts International, adding, “In Ocho Rios, located in the parish of St. Ann, our resorts were not significantly affected by the most severe impacts. We have meticulously inspected each resort, and all systems and services will be fully operational to welcome guests with confidence once again.”
With restoration plans in motion, the reopening date of 6 December also ensures that team members have time to recover and care for their families and communities before returning to their work. “Our team members have shown extraordinary commitment, and their spirit is indomitable,” added Stewart.
Adam Stewart, who was recently called by Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Edmund Bartlett, to join the Hurricane Melissa Recovery Task Force in the country — and who also serves as Special Investment Envoy for Tourism — emphasized the importance of visitors’ return for Jamaica’s recovery. “Tourism is a vital part of Jamaica’s national recovery, and guests can be assured that the best way to support the region is by visiting and returning to the island they love,” said Stewart. “And if there is one thing I can assure you, at Sandals when we come back, we always come back bigger, stronger and better than ever.”
After the passage of Hurricane Melissa, the Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, is leading the relief efforts to support affected communities across Jamaica. Formed in 2009, the foundation drives the company’s commitment to the Caribbean through education programmes, community development and environmental protection. One hundred percent of every donation goes directly to fund aid and reconstruction initiatives.
