The worsening of heat waves, droughts, and environmental disasters highlights the urgency of concrete measures in the face of the climate crisis. In this context, Cortez Editora is launching Youth and Climate: Voices of the Future , a book organized by socioecology professor Alfredo Pena-Vega and socio-environmental scientist Elimar Pinheiro do Nascimento.
This publication is the result of collective work promoted by the Global Youth Climate Pact (GYCP), in partnership with the Astrojildo Pereira Foundation, which seeks to consolidate contributions from the world's youth for COP30, to be held in Belém. The book presents a collection of experiences and ideas that unite science, ethics, and transformative action.
The content addresses key themes such as environmental education, the psychological impacts of climate change, sustainable agriculture, the rights of indigenous peoples, and the challenges of reconciling economic development with the preservation of ecosystems. The work emphasizes that traditional solutions are no longer sufficient and that a new approach is needed in the face of environmental collapse—a transformation that begins with new generations.
More than a collection of proposals, the book establishes itself as a manifesto of hope and commitment. By highlighting the active role of young people in rebuilding a possible future, Youth and Climate: Voices of the Future reaffirms the urgency of an intergenerational pact, based on collective responsibility and the pursuit of balance between progress and sustainability.
