In a dialogue with Travel2latam, Consuelo Sánchez, Market Manager for Latin America and Portugal at Madrid Destino Cultura, Turismo y Negocio SA, shared the city's objectives and new developments in the Latin American market.

What are Madrid's objectives in participating in Festuris Gramado?

For us, Brazil and the Latin American markets are fundamental. We share many cultural ties and common interests, and even though we're far apart, we always feel close. Madrid remains a key destination and, for many travelers, it's like coming home. Furthermore, it's the main gateway to Spain and the rest of Europe, which is why we want to continue strengthening that position, supporting agencies and airlines in developing new routes and experiences.

What new features is the city presenting at this year's event?

Madrid is undergoing a fascinating urban transformation. Those who return after a few years are often surprised by how much it has changed. More and more areas of the city center are being pedestrianized, making it easier to explore the city on foot, with less traffic, less noise, and cleaner air. Madrid has become a more welcoming city, ideal for enjoying its restaurants, museums, and nightlife.

How is air connectivity between Madrid and Latin America evolving?

Connectivity continues to grow. Iberia has recently launched flights from Fortaleza and Recife, adding to its existing routes from São Paulo, Salvador, and Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, the airline is promoting its Stopover Madrid program , which allows passengers connecting to Europe or any other destination to stay between one and nine nights in the city without affecting the ticket price. It's an excellent opportunity to enjoy Madrid, even if just for a few days.

What upcoming promotional activities do you have planned?

Our next stop will be Seville, for the Spain by Train workshop , the association that brings together cities connected by high-speed rail in Spain. Then, in December, I'll be participating in the conference organized by Turespaña in Cartagena de Indias, dedicated to the Colombian market.

With a strategy that combines culture, sustainability and connectivity, Madrid is consolidating itself as one of the most attractive European destinations and best prepared to receive the Latin American traveler.
