The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ICF, a US-based global consulting firm, with the aim of exploring joint opportunities to advance sustainable tourism development, climate change adaptation and resilience building in Caribbean destinations.
The agreement establishes areas of cooperation that include technical assistance, destination governance, market competitiveness, and capacity building. Both entities will seek to foster the participation of local communities through inclusive governance models, promote public-private partnerships, and share knowledge that contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the Caribbean.
Through this agreement, the CTO and ICF will be able to collaborate on technical advice regarding sustainable and regenerative tourism, develop training programs for stakeholders in the sector, and offer their expertise in technical assistance projects focused on responsible growth.
“The collaboration with ICF reinforces our mission to lead the sustainable development of tourism in the Caribbean, joining forces with strategic partners who bring experience and global reach,” said Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary General and CEO of the CTO. “ICF’s extensive track record in destination strategy, climate resilience, and sustainable development will be key for our members to build a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable tourism sector.”
For his part, Nikolaos Gkolfinopoulos, Head of Tourism at ICF, stated: “ICF is committed to the responsible development of tourism. Our mission is to offer solutions to the most pressing challenges facing destinations. We are excited to work alongside the CTO to support its objectives and contribute to the sustainable development of Caribbean tourism. We aspire to be a trusted partner in driving regional growth through comprehensive and interdisciplinary solutions.”
The agreement, signed in London during the World Travel Market, will be valid until 2029.
The Caribbean Tourism Organization, headquartered in Barbados, brings together the region's leading countries and territories, as well as members of the private sector. Its vision is to position the Caribbean as the world's most attractive year-round warm-weather destination, under the motto "One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean."
