Montevideo will host the World Economic History Congress 2028
The World Economic History Congress (WEHC) —the world's most prestigious meeting on economic history, with more than five decades of history and an estimated participation of 1,000 to 1,500 specialists— will take place in Montevideo in 2028.
The nomination was promoted by the Uruguayan Association of Economic History (AUDHE) together with the Faculties of Social Sciences and Economic Sciences of the University of the Republic, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Montevideo.
The congress will be held at the Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel, with academic and cultural activities at the Solís Theatre and other venues. This designation represents an unprecedented achievement for Uruguay, with a significant academic, economic, and international impact. Professional organization will be handled by Grupo Elis Meetings Management.
Latin American Congress of Microbiology ALAM 2029
Uruguay was also chosen to host the next Latin American Congress of Microbiology 2029, organized by the Latin American Association of Microbiology (ALAM), one of the most important scientific forums for the Ibero-American community in the area.
The nomination was submitted by the Uruguayan Society of Microbiology, represented by Paola Scavone (president) and Virginia Ferreira (treasurer), during an official mission to the Dominican Republic. With technical and institutional support from the Ministry of Tourism, they developed a strong presentation that allowed Uruguay to prevail over the bids of other important destinations in the region.
The host city for the congress within Uruguay is currently under evaluation.
A collaborative working model that delivers results.
These two achievements reaffirm that Uruguay has a mature and competitive structure for winning high-level international bids. The Ministry of Tourism will continue to support and strengthen these initiatives through its management programs: the Declaration of Tourist Interest for meetings tourism, the Declaration of National Interest for international events, the Tax Incentive Program, and the Uruguay Capta fund.
These tools are complemented by the sustained work throughout the year with AUDOCA and the Ambassadors Program, whose synergy and inter-institutional articulation make it possible to achieve results like these.
