The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on harmonizing methodologies and processes related to environmental labelling for flights within the European Union. The initiative aims to strengthen transparency in the aviation industry by giving passengers reliable information about the environmental impact of each itinerary.

The agreement integrates the EU’s Flight Emissions Label (FEL) with data platforms developed by IATA, such as EcoHub and the CO2 Connect calculator, both of which use primary data provided by more than 90 airlines. The goal is to unify criteria so that the measurement and communication of environmental impact—especially emissions associated with flights—are clear, consistent and comparable.

The collaboration also seeks to reduce administrative burdens for airlines and streamline processes through standardized data and interoperable systems. Both EASA and IATA emphasized that passengers increasingly demand environmental transparency, and the industry needs accurate tools to respond to growing regulations and expectations.

The agreement was signed during Wings of Change Europe, held in Brussels on 18–19 November 2025.
