The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that, from January to September 2025, the arrival of international tourists by air by country of residence reached 15 million 96 thousand visitors.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) specified that, according to figures from the Migration Policy, Registration and Identity Unit, this figure represents an increase of 0.6 percent compared to 2024 and exceeds the levels of 2019 by 9.7 percent, when 13 million 760 thousand tourists arrived.
In this regard, he highlighted that Canada has consolidated its position as one of Mexico's strategic markets, registering the arrival of 1,939,000 tourists during the first nine months of the year, representing an increase of 11.3 percent compared to 2014 and 16.8 percent compared to 2019. This performance reinforces the importance of the Canadian market within international tourism arriving by air to our country.
“Canadian tourism continues to strengthen its presence in our country and demonstrates the confidence it has in Mexico as a safe, diverse and high-quality destination,” he noted.
Rodríguez Zamora highlighted the arrival of 10,202,000 tourists residing in the United States, a figure 0.7 percent higher than in 2014 and 26.1 percent higher than in 2019. Additionally, 327,848 tourists residing in the United Kingdom were recorded, representing a 2.1 percent increase compared to 2014. Furthermore, he detailed that 52.9 percent of foreign tourists arriving by air are between 30 and 59 years old.
“This progress reflects the importance of deepening cooperation with our international partners and continuing to promote strategies that expand air connectivity and tourism promotion.”
The Secretary of Tourism asserted that, with the upcoming World Cup and the actions announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum within this framework—aimed at expanding infrastructure, strengthening connectivity, and consolidating tourism promotion—an additional boost is expected that will allow these figures to continue rising.
