A recent working meeting was attended by Javier Azcurra, First Vice President of CAMTUR, and Sebastián Freire, Vice President of Destinations; and Mónica Zalaquett, Executive President of FEDETUR, representing the two countries. The meeting reaffirmed a strong and long-term commitment to cooperation, based on a shared agenda with a high impact for Uruguay and Chile.

This alliance has been built and consolidated within the framework of the South American Tourism Federation (FEDESUD), an organization through which both institutions promote initiatives to strengthen tourism flows between the two countries and position the region as a competitive international destination. This collaborative work has continued under different leaderships: at CAMTUR, with Juan Martínez and Marina Cantera—who also presided over FEDESUD—and at FEDETUR, with Jaime Guazzini at the helm of the South American federation.

In 2023, a CAMTUR delegation made an institutional visit to Chile, reaffirming its commitment to ongoing dialogue and the strategic importance of this bilateral relationship. This visit coincided with the change of leadership at FEDESUD, when Marina Cantera assumed the presidency, emphasizing the need to integrate the region's private sector into a common, borderless tourism promotion platform.

The relationship between CAMTUR and FEDETUR has also highlighted the importance of advancing state policies for tourism and strengthening coordination with national and regional authorities. Both Uruguay and Chile have demonstrated a clear institutional commitment to granting the private sector a leading role in tourism planning and development.

As a concrete result of this cooperation, the first edition of Sudamérica Conecta was held in Uruguay in 2024, an event in which 11 integrated tourist routes were designed that will be presented at FITUR 2025, along with an international business round aimed at generating new commercial opportunities for the region.

Under the current presidency of Jaime Guazzini at FEDETUR, this shared agenda is deepened with a convergent vision: to jointly promote destinations, generate institutional synergies and open strategic markets outside the region.

In the short term, CAMTUR and FEDETUR, along with the other members of FEDESUD, are moving forward with new operational actions, including:

- Joint presentation of destinations with LATAM, scheduled for December 4th in Madrid

-second round of business scheduled for January 20, as a prelude to

FITUR, with the participation of tour operators from all over South America.

Looking ahead to 2026, both institutions are already working to strengthen bilateral promotion through mutual support in presentations and business meetings, collaboration on trade initiatives, and the upcoming Expo Turismo Uruguay 2026, where they plan to promote the "Chile Closer" campaign and the Chilean VIVA Fair. This initiative aims to consolidate a joint strategy that brings both markets closer, diversifies the tourism offerings, and enhances exchange between tour operators in Uruguay and Chile.

Furthermore, the promotional teams of both chambers maintain ongoing coordination, especially in actions aimed at the tourism trade and in initiatives developed within FEDESUD's work plan.

CAMTUR and FEDETUR reaffirm a mature alliance, with proven track records and a focus on concrete results: more regional integration, more business for the sector and a South America better positioned on the global tourism map.
