RIU Hotels & Resorts celebrated the reopening of the Riu Guanacaste in Costa Rica, following its complete renovation, at an event attended by the chain's main partners and allies in the destination, as well as numerous media outlets and important representatives from organizations such as the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, the Municipality of Carrillo, and the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP). The celebration, which was attended by more than 100 people, served to reaffirm RIU's commitment to Costa Rica, a country in which it has operated for 16 years and in which it continues to invest.

In his welcoming address, Joan Trian Riu, a board member of the Riu hotel chain and representative of the Riu family, stated, “Costa Rica inspires us to keep improving. That’s why every step we take in this country is with the future in mind: increasingly sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous tourism.” Regarding social investment, Trian highlighted that Costa Rica was the birthplace of “the RIU Method of social investment, with a project we are particularly proud of: the Artola medical clinic, which opened in 2018 as a pediatric clinic and now also serves senior citizens in the area.” He emphasized the value of the public-private partnership model implemented in conjunction with the Costa Rican Social Security System (CCSS), a model that has been replicated in other countries such as Cape Verde.

For his part, Gustavo Alvarado, director of Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability at the ICT, who attended on behalf of the Minister of Tourism William Rodríguez, stated that “what the RIU chain demonstrates are those principles of how they provide good service, how they invest in infrastructure, how they improve over time; these are basic principles to continue advancing in development.”

The president of UCCAEP, Maritza Hernández, highlighted RIU's continued commitment to the country: “For UCCAEP and for me personally, being here today and being able to thank the fourth generation of the RIU family is very important, because today we see these facilities and we see the capacity and courage of a family group that has decided to trust in Costa Rica, that has told Costa Rica, 'Here we are.'”

Following the speeches, a moving video was shown, highlighting both the virtues of the Riu Guanacaste after its renovation and the human qualities of everyone who is part of the RIU family in Costa Rica. Representatives from the various partners with whom the chain collaborates on its social investment projects, such as the Artola Clinic and the National Parks Foundation, were also given the opportunity to speak. Afterward, Joan Trian Riu performed the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, concluding the official proceedings. Guests then enjoyed a pleasant dinner and social gathering to bring the celebration to a close.
