The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that, in the third quarter of 2025, the population employed in the tourism sector of Mexico amounted to 4 million 992 thousand people.
“When we strengthen the tourism sector, we promote Shared Prosperity, because every new job creates opportunities, boosts local economies and contributes to more equitable growth for everyone,” he stressed.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that, according to data from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 9.3% of the country's total jobs correspond to activities linked to the tourism sector.
He added that, year-on-year, tourism employment grew by 1.8%, representing 90,477 more people than in the same quarter of 2024. He also highlighted that, compared to the previous quarter, tourism employment increased by 3,838 people working in activities related to the sector.
“With this, the sector not only maintains its sustained pace of recovery, but also continues to consolidate itself as one of the main generators of employment in the country,” he said.
On the other hand, Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that, during this period, the number of people employed in tourism was 11.2% above its historical figure prior to the pandemic, which represents 504,668 more people compared to the record of the first quarter of 2020.
“Tourism is one of the major drivers of employment in Mexico and a constant source of well-being for thousands of families. These results reflect the strength of the sector and its contribution to national development, fully aligned with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s vision of promoting growth with justice and well-being for all,” she concluded.
