While participating in the inauguration of the new Riu Ventura Hotel in Cancun, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa expressed that behind Quintana Roo there is a large group of businesswomen and businessmen who have been able to see here more than a tourist destination, a space for social construction, human development and shared prosperity.
Accompanied by Pablo Klimann, Director of Operations for the Mexican Caribbean and Costa Rica at Riu Hotels & Resorts, the head of the Executive Branch expressed her gratitude not only for the formal opening of this hotel, but also for recognizing the workers who are a fundamental part, the essence, of the 12 tourist destinations in the state.
“Our employees deserve to live well, to have well-paid, well-compensated jobs. That’s why we’re building homes, absorbing all the subsidies from the federal, state, and municipal governments, so that those earning two minimum wages can have a home with all the basic necessities,” explained Mara Lezama, praising this project that reaffirms the state’s tourism strength and consolidates the confidence of international investment, particularly Spanish investment, one of the most significant and longest-standing in the state.
He also emphasized that hosting two World Cup teams puts Quintana Roo in the global spotlight and we want them to have a great experience.
This inauguration marks a significant milestone: it is the first hotel opening event that the RIU chain has held in Quintana Roo, reflecting the company's sustained growth and commitment to the destination. The opening of this new hotel has an immediate social impact, creating more than 400 new jobs and contributing to the well-being of Quintana Roo families and the growth of local communities.
Pablo Klimann announced that this is the chain's sixth hotel in Cancún, and that the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancún and the Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen will soon be renovated. “Riu is committed to Quintana Roo and is growing alongside its community, promoting sustainability. The employees are the heart of this hotel,” he said.
With the addition of the Hotel Riu Ventura, the RIU chain now has six hotels in Cancún and 15 in Quintana Roo, solidifying its position as the chain with the largest presence in the state. This expansion not only strengthens the tourism offerings of the Mexican Caribbean but also fosters job creation and the diversification of services.
With this opening, RIU Hotels reaches its 23rd hotel in Mexico, a country where it has consolidated one of its largest social investment commitments. This event also comes at a strategic moment for international promotion: just one month before FITUR, the tourism fair in which Mexico will participate for the first time as Spain's Partner Country, a historic opportunity to strengthen relationships, attract new investments, and continue positioning Quintana Roo as a world leader in tourism.
The mayor of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, welcomed the business leaders and guests to the event. Also present were Rodrigo de la Peña, president of the Cancún, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association; and Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism.
