Arajet, the Dominican Republic's flag carrier, announced the arrival of its 13th aircraft, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 christened "Isabel de Torres" in honor of one of the country's most iconic nature reserves. The aircraft made its maiden landing at Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata, where it was greeted by local authorities and representatives of the tourism sector.
The delegation was headed by Igor Rodriguez, Director General of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), and Manuel Luna, Chief Communications and External Affairs Officer of Arajet, who highlighted the relevance of this milestone for the positioning of the country within the air connectivity map of the Americas.
“The arrival of this new aircraft represents the Dominican Republic’s ongoing commitment to modern, efficient, and safe aviation. Arajet continues to raise industry standards and strengthen our aviation system as one of the most robust in the region,” Rodriguez stated.
Likewise, Manuel Luna emphasized that, “Isabel de Torres is a natural icon of our country, a symbol of biodiversity and a source of pride for Puerto Plata. With this 13th aircraft, we continue expanding our vision of making the Dominican Republic the low-cost hub of the Americas, connecting the country with more opportunities and more destinations.”
Carlos Rodoli, director of Gregorio Luperón Airport, stated, “At AERODOM, we are delighted to welcome Arajet’s 13th aircraft, especially since it bears the name of one of Puerto Plata’s natural treasures. We have enthusiastically supported Arajet’s growth since its inception, and this new milestone reaffirms POP’s importance as a gateway to tourism in the northern region and the commitment of both companies to continue strengthening the country’s air connectivity.”
Isabel de Torres Hill, located at an altitude of over 800 meters, is one of the most renowned natural areas in the Dominican Republic. Its rainforest harbors a rich biodiversity, including endemic species, and plays a key role in climate regulation and water resource conservation. Furthermore, it is one of the main tourist attractions in the north of the country, known for its historic cable car and unique landscapes.
With this addition, Arajet continues to expand and strengthen the youngest fleet in the region, advancing its mission to offer safe, efficient operations and a value proposition that boosts connectivity between the Dominican Republic and key markets in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
