Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa led the Eighth Working Meeting with state and federal authorities, the Southeast Airport Group, SA de CV (ASUR), as well as representatives of associations, to follow up on priority issues of the Cancun International Airport, with significant progress in customs, migration, transportation and security.
During the meeting, the Governor highlighted progress made, including agreements with customs authorities to eliminate fees for passengers entering the country with more than one electronic device, as well as the standardization of procedures for importing cigarettes. Additionally, issues related to transportation companies operating outside the airport were resolved following the formalization of contracts with ASUR.
Regarding immigration, he explained that the maximum waiting time has been reduced to 24 minutes, with the expectation that in high seasons it will not exceed 30 minutes, thanks to the hiring of more staff and the upcoming installation of “e-gates”, which will add 20 modules by next year.
Another topic Mara Lezama addressed was the proposal to establish clear and orderly transportation rates from the airport to different points in the municipality of Benito Juárez, other municipalities in Quintana Roo, and even to other states, a proposal that will be detailed in upcoming working sessions.
In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in which Quintana Roo will host two national teams, plans were reviewed to accommodate a larger number of visitors, reinforcing security, mobility, and the tourist experience, in what was described as a historic moment for the state and the country.
The Governor emphasized the inter-institutional coordination with the National Guard, the Army, Migration, Customs, the Attorney General's Office, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Citizen Security, as well as with organizations such as CPTQ, ASUR and civil and business associations, to guarantee comprehensive attention during the holiday season and international events.
The goal, the head of the Executive pointed out, is for those arriving at the Cancun International Airport to have a positive experience from their arrival, in immigration, customs and transportation, until their transfer to the hotel, consolidating the country's main airport for international passenger arrivals as a benchmark of quality and service.
