The event highlighted Guatemala's potential as a multidiverse destination, renowned for its vast cultural heritage, Mayan worldview, and offering of adventure, nature, and unique experiences for Dominican travelers. During the presentation, it was emphasized that Guatemala is home to 22 ethnic groups of Mayan origin, as well as Garifuna, Xinca, and mestizo populations, who share living, ancient traditions in a territory ranked among the world's megadiverse countries.
The importance of the nation as the heart of the Mayan World was also highlighted, with more than 170 monumental archaeological sites and four declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, including the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala and the imposing Tikal National Park.
Marlene Reynoso Urzúa, Chargé d'Affaires of the Guatemalan Embassy in the Dominican Republic, highlighted the importance of strengthening joint work between both countries:
“It is essential to strengthen alliances between tour operators and explore strategies that increase the flow of visitors to Guatemala; our purpose is to bring more Dominicans closer to the heart of the Mayan World. We thank Arajet for joining this effort.”
During the meeting, the participating agencies learned about the seven tourist regions that make up Guatemala's offerings: Modern and Colonial; Highlands, Living Mayan Culture; Petén, Adventure in the Mayan World; Izabal, Green Caribbean; Las Verapaces, Natural Paradise; Pacific, Magical and Diverse; and East, Mystical and Natural.
The presentations were given by Ericka Guillermo, Commercial Counselor of the Guatemalan Embassy, who invited Dominican agencies to promote the destination:
“Today we are showcasing the natural and cultural beauty of Guatemala, a unique destination within reach of Dominicans; we want to work with you to promote travel and take advantage of the direct connectivity we have with Arajet,” he said.
Arajet reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting connectivity and tourism exchange between the two countries. Alexandra Baret, Senior Sales Manager at Arajet, stated, “At Arajet, we are proud to help more Dominicans discover the wonders of Guatemala.
