The state of Quintana Roo has secured 2025 as its best year ever for cruise tourism and air connectivity, registering record numbers in both ship and passenger arrivals and airport traffic. This was announced by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, who highlighted the coordinated efforts between the State Government, the private sector, and international organizations, particularly the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA).
According to official projections, more than 7.4 million cruise passengers are expected to arrive during 2025, representing a growth of 3.6% compared to 2024 and reaffirming Quintana Roo's position as the main cruise destination in Mexico and one of the most important globally.
Performance by destination reflects positive growth across the state. Costa Maya is expected to receive more than 2.8 million visitors, a 9.1% year-over-year increase, while Cozumel projects more than 4.6 million cruise passengers, a 0.5% increase compared to the previous year.
In terms of port operations, an estimated 1,874 cruise ships are expected to arrive during 2025, representing a 3.8% increase compared to 2024. Cozumel will handle 1,300 vessels, with a 1.5% growth, and Costa Maya will reach 574 arrivals, standing out with a 9.3% increase.
The growth in maritime tourism is complemented by a record-breaking performance in air connectivity. During the year, two records were set in the same week at the state's four airports, reaching 766 and 771 daily air operations on December 20 and 27, respectively, marking unprecedented figures for the region.
This scenario is further strengthened by the implementation of a state tax on cruise tourism, which includes a contribution of five dollars per cruise passenger, an amount matched by the State Government. The funds collected are directly allocated to improving tourism infrastructure, impacting the quality of services, safety, and the overall experience for both visitors and local communities.
Governor Mara Lezama stated that these results are part of a strategy focused on orderly, sustainable, and socially responsible tourism development, with the goal of generating well-being and shared prosperity throughout the state.
