RIU opens its second hotel in London

RIU Hotels & Resorts has added a new property to its RIU Plaza portfolio: the Hotel Riu Plaza London The Westminster. The new hotel is the perfect complement to the Hotel Riu Plaza London Victoria, which RIU opened in July 2023.

It is precisely the high demand for this property that has encouraged the hotel chain to seek a second hotel in the city. The Hotel Riu Plaza London The Westminster has 464 rooms and is located one minute from the River Thames, the Tate Britain museum, and a short walk from the historic Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, and the iconic Big Ben.

The new hotel is also close to Buckingham Palace, St. James's Park and the London Eye and offers its guests a full buffet breakfast, a hallmark of RIU's city offerings, a lobby café bar, meeting rooms and a fully equipped 24-hour gym.

The hotel was originally built in 2003 and underwent a complete renovation in 2021, at which time it became part of the Curio Collection by Hilton brand. Following its acquisition by RIU, the hotel joins the chain's RIU Plaza portfolio of urban hotels. Thanks to the recent renovation, the hotel will not require extensive refurbishment.

It is located about a 15-minute walk from the Riu Plaza London Victoria Hotel and, interestingly, its decor makes many nods to the mysterious world of spies given its proximity to the offices of the British intelligence service MI5 and MI6.

Riu Plaza London The Westminster thus becomes the thirteenth property in RIU's urban line, joining those already operating in Panama City, Guadalajara (Mexico), Madrid, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Berlin, London, Dublin, and Toronto. RIU continues its commitment to growth in major cities worldwide and is currently building its third hotel in New York, while also seeking new opportunities in major European capitals.
