The Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster (CTDPP) and the Dominican Association of Sports Tourism (ADOTURD) signed a Framework Agreement for Interinstitutional Collaboration aimed at strengthening the development of sports tourism in the northern region, incorporating it as a strategic axis complementary to the traditional sun and beach proposal.

The signing took place on Friday, January 9th in the Lotus Room of the Blue JackTar Playa Dorada hotel and brought together athletes, leaders of sports guilds, event organizers and key players in the tourism ecosystem, who expressed their support for the initiatives that will arise from this agreement.

During the meeting, members of the CTDPP board of directors shared experiences and perspectives on the role of sporting events in promoting the destination. Guillermo Pérez highlighted the evolution of these types of activities in Puerto Plata and their impact on economic development, while Juan Yamil Musa presented the scope of the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of inter-institutional coordination to build a common agenda aligned with the national sports tourism strategy.

Birgitt Heinsen, president of the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster, stated that the agreement reflects a shared vision within the tourism sector, which recognizes sports as a tool for social and economic transformation. In this regard, she reaffirmed the Cluster's commitment to prioritizing support for sporting events as a key segment for positioning and strengthening the destination.

For his part, ADOTURD President Yerik Pérez emphasized the need to structure clear calendars of sporting events, accompanied by metrics that allow for measuring their economic, tourism, and social impact. He also praised the Cluster's leadership and highlighted that data-driven planning will enable more effective decision-making and consolidate Puerto Plata as a competitive and sustainable destination within sports tourism.

The event also included the participation of provincial representatives from the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Tourism, Yokasta Almonte and Vinicio Clase, who supported the vision of strengthening sports tourism as a key component of territorial development.

The Framework Agreement outlines joint actions in promotion, development of tourism products, technical and institutional exchange, public-private partnerships, training, and event organization. It will be valid for three years, with automatic renewal, and aims to consolidate a common agenda for the northern region, positioning sports tourism as a complementary driver of sustainable development in Puerto Plata.
