The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric Font, arrived in the Valparaíso commune to tour the construction site of Parque Barón, an urban initiative that transforms one of the city's main port areas into a park for the public
The landmark project covers approximately 12 hectares and is currently 70% complete in its first phase, with an estimated investment of over 23.407 billion pesos. The final version includes recreational and sports facilities, landscaping with trees and vegetation, paved pedestrian walkways with universal accessibility, street furniture, lighting, playgrounds, urban infrastructure, and more.
During his visit, the president was accompanied by the undersecretaries of Regional and Administrative Development, Francisca Perales; and of Tourism, Verónica Pardo; the governor of the Valparaíso Region, Rodrigo Mundaca; the presidential delegate of the Valparaíso Region, Yanino Riquelme; and the mayor of Valparaíso, Camila Nieto.
At the start of the tour, the head of state visited the park's new skatepark in the company of athletes, and later toured the renovated waterfront, which will soon be surrounded by green areas.
During the event, the President emphasized that “this place will be an epicenter of life for Valparaíso; it is a great project that fulfills the purpose of making Valparaíso a city connected to the sea, which includes facilities for recreation, sports, landscaping, paved pedestrian paths with universal accessibility, urban furniture, lighting, children's play areas, which will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Valparaíso, but due to its magnitude it is a project that benefits all of Chile and I dare say even the world.”
Also during the event, the launch of the Summer Tourism Season 2026 took place, highlighting the start of the campaign “Chile is Yours, your summer starts here” by the National Tourism Service (Sernatur), an initiative that includes the website chileestuyo.cl where it is possible to find detailed information on national destinations in all regions of the country, practical information for planning trips, such as routes, a calendar of events and festivities, as well as tips for responsible tourism.
In this regard, the Head of State emphasized the importance of tourism during the summer season. “Tourism is a major industry because it generates a lot of employment, because it helps us care for and value our heritage, because it highlights what is ours. So we invite everyone watching to come and discover this beautiful Chile we have. For everyone listening, from wherever you are in the country, Valparaíso will always hold something special and dear, and we must all work together to take care of this city.”
