Lima is best discovered as a family. Not only is it a destination that blends ancient heritage with modern vibrancy, but it also offers experiences that delight all ages. In Lima, every corner invites you to create shared memories, from savoring its renowned cuisine and visiting archaeological sites or a stunning park with fountains, to cycling through its vibrant coastal districts overlooking the sea.

A journey on two wheels

One of the most enjoyable ways to discover Lima as a family is by bicycle. The capital is easily explored thanks to the route that connects the districts of Miraflores and Barranco. Along the way, you can admire the extensive boardwalk that links these two tourist areas, offering breathtaking views of the cliffs and the Pacific Ocean.

Depending on the route chosen, you can make stops at some of the city's main attractions such as Kennedy Park, Love Park, Larcomar Shopping Center (located on a cliff), the Bridge of Sighs, the Pedro de Osma Museum, and to cool off you can visit one of the delicious artisanal ice cream shops in Barranco.

Currently, there are several certified operators that allow you to discover Lima by pedaling.

Water and magic in the city

One of Lima's most impressive sights is this fascinating park, boasting 13 ornamental fountains that have made it one of the city's main attractions. Adults and children alike enjoy spending time at the Magic Water Circuit in Parque de la Reserva, where the fountains shoot enormous jets of water or form unique tunnels that invite play.

At night, a fabulous light show can be enjoyed at the so-called Fountain of Fantasy. During the show, jets of water are launched to the rhythm of different musical pieces while the area is illuminated with vibrant colors. Afterward, images are projected onto this enormous fountain, showcasing iconic elements of Peru related to the country's history, dances, gastronomy, and culture.

Exquisite gastronomic tours

Gastronomy, one of Peru's greatest sources of pride thanks to its numerous international accolades, is also a treat for families. To discover local flavors, there are various culinary tours that typically begin at a market, offering a close-up look at the diverse Peruvian ingredients. The experience continues at a restaurant where a chef teaches you how to prepare various Peruvian dishes such as ceviche or causa limeña, and iconic drinks like pisco sour.

And if the little ones crave desserts, they can try a cremolada made with Peruvian fruits like chirimoya and lucuma; enjoy a classic Lima churro; delight in the best artisanal ice creams in Lima; or visit places like the Chocomuseo, where the Peruvian chocolate-making process is explained.

Archaeological sites in the middle of the city

In addition to these family outings, Lima boasts numerous archaeological sites. One of the most visited is Huaca Pucllana, an impressive ceremonial and administrative center built of adobe some 1,800 years ago, located in the heart of the Miraflores district. Besides a museum, it also features the Native Flora and Fauna Park, where visitors can see small plantations of quinoa, amaranth, chili peppers, and other Peruvian crops, as well as native animals like llamas and guinea pigs.

Another great option is the Pachacamac Archaeological Sanctuary, located south of the city. For over 1,200 years, this site was an important pre-Hispanic pilgrimage center where the god Pachacamac was venerated. Within its more than 465 hectares, you can appreciate its diverse structures, such as the Temple of the Sun, located at the highest point of the sanctuary. From here, you can see the Pacific Ocean, the islands that lie there, and the vast Lurín Valley. Its modern museum exhibits artifacts found at the site, such as ceramics, textiles, and other objects, which offer a glimpse into the life and beliefs of the civilizations that inhabited this incredible place.

With direct flights, regional proximity and a diverse offering that combines fun, learning and flavor, Lima confirms itself as the first destination to enjoy the magic of Peru as a family.
