Meliá Hotels & Resorts is advancing its international expansion with the opening of Meliá Whale Lagoon Maldives , a five-star all-inclusive resort that represents the brand's debut in the Maldives and a new milestone within the global strategy of Meliá Hotels International.

Located in the South Ari Atoll , the new resort was designed to cater to a variety of travel styles, from romantic getaways and family vacations to experiences focused on exploring the marine environment. Access to the resort is part of the experience, with a seaplane transfer of approximately 30 minutes from Malé International Airport to this pristine location.

The hotel is located within the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) , internationally recognized for the permanent presence of whale sharks and manta rays. This natural environment offers an ideal setting for activities such as snorkeling, diving, paddle surfing, and kayaking, integrating direct contact with the biodiversity of the Indian Ocean as a central part of the experience.

The property features 100 private oceanfront villas , designed to ensure privacy and a seamless connection with the landscape. Among them are the Water Villas , built over the turquoise waters; the Sunset Suite Villas , which include a private pool and open views of the sunset; and the Beach Villas , located directly on the beach and designed for a direct experience of the white sand and sea.

The resort also boasts a diverse culinary scene with four restaurants and bars , offering a blend of Mediterranean and international cuisine, as well as two infinity pools and a spa featuring wellness treatments, a sauna, and a steam room. The resort also offers an entertainment program that includes live music, outdoor cinema, cooking classes, and activities designed for different age groups.

“The Maldives represents the essence of our purpose: to grow in the world’s most exclusive destinations and create unique moments in incomparable environments, with the hospitality that defines Meliá,” said Gabriel Escarrer , president and CEO of the group.

This opening marks the beginning of Meliá Hotels International's presence in the Maldives, a commitment that will continue with the addition of the Hotel Amilla , located in Baa Atoll , a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, which will become part of The Meliá Collection portfolio , the group's luxury brand.
