The Eco-Bahía México Foundation, an environmental initiative of Grupo Piñero, reaffirms its leadership in the protection of the marine-coastal ecosystems of the Mexican Caribbean through the Sak Program, a comprehensive
conservation strategy that during 2025 generated tangible results in favor of the environment and community participation.
Sak is the Eco-Bahía Foundation's marine and coastal ecosystem conservation program, focused on protecting beaches and oceans through clean-up days, waste analysis, and community engagement. Its goal is to reduce marine pollution, generate scientific information on coastal debris, and foster a culture of shared environmental responsibility among employees, local communities, and strategic partners.
The Sak Program combines field action, applied science and environmental education, contributing to the preservation of natural capital and the strengthening of a regenerative tourism model in the destinations where Grupo Piñero operates.
Throughout the year, the Sak Program carried out 12 coastal clean-up days —10 at Playa Aventuras DIF and 2 at Playa Xcacel-Xcacelito— with the participation of 237 volunteers, including employees of Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts, residents of Tulum Country Club, ZOFEMAT Tulum and environmental allies.
As a result, 3.32 kilometers of beach were cleaned, 4,170 nurdles (primary microplastics) were collected, and 600.56 kilograms of solid waste were removed from the coastal environment.
In addition, the program strengthened its scientific approach through the monthly analysis and classification of beaching and dune debris, reaching a total of 329.95 kg of analyzed debris. This information was systematized and shared with Ocean Conservancy, contributing to the global understanding of marine pollution patterns and reinforcing data-driven decision-making.
“The Sak Program represents much more than clean-up days; it is a tool for awareness, science, and collective action. Every piece of waste removed and every piece of data shared contributes to protecting our oceans and building a more responsible relationship between communities and their natural environment,” stated Luis Verdín, manager of the Eco-Bahía Foundation in Mexico.
These actions were made possible thanks to a solid network of strategic alliances, including Tulum Circula, ZOFEMAT Tulum, Ocean Conservancy, Nurdle Patrol, Casa Cruz Inmobiliaria, Colillarte and Scubaquatic, strengthening the reach, citizen participation and environmental impact of the program.
The Sak Program is part of the mission of the Eco-Bahía Foundation, created in 1999, which promotes a regenerative tourism model, where the conservation of natural capital, environmental education and community collaboration are fundamental pillars to guarantee a sustainable future in the destinations where Grupo Piñero operates.
With measurable results and a long-term vision, Sak is establishing itself as a benchmark for environmental action in Mexico, demonstrating that protecting coasts and oceans requires constant commitment, applied science, and a collective effort.
