Tourism Minister Pablo Menoni participated in the UN Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability, headed by its Secretary General Shaikha N. Alnuwais, in a session held within the framework of FITUR.
Global agenda and multilateral cooperation
The meeting focused on preparations for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027 and on analyzing the principles of regenerative tourism, with the aim of strengthening common strategies among member countries and promoting models that generate positive impacts in the territories.
Uruguay's position and contributions
During his speech, Minister Menoni emphasized that “active participation in the UN Tourism Sustainability Committee meeting allows us to gather best practices and reaffirm our commitment to sustainable tourism that promotes local development, generates employment and contributes to the well-being of communities.”
Key aspects of the sustainable approach
Sustainability in tourism rests on a balance between three fundamental dimensions: the environmental, focused on the responsible use of natural resources and the conservation of biodiversity; the economic, focused on generating equitable benefits and stable employment; and the sociocultural, based on respect for the identity and values of host communities. This comprehensive approach seeks to consolidate harmonious and long-term growth for the sector.
